HEIMAT – NIEMANN, LÜDERS & FROMM
The Niemanns were foresters on a great estate near Spornitz in Mecklenberg- Schwerin which is likely the same area that is bordered in green on the map near Spornitz. Both Lüders and Niemann families had Spornitz as their home village. Lüders had various occupations.
The Fromm family were from Goldenbow. Johann Fromm was a shepherd. At that time a shepherd in Germany was an expert on sheep, much more than a simple herder. See Heimat – Luders, Niemann, Fromm for a description of the region in the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica
Below – some photos from the villages and immediate vicinity. Click on a photo for enlarged view. The land bears a strong resemblance in topography, fertility, and climate to their pioneer land in Wisconsin.
